Settling In Procedure

Any child attending a day nursery for the first time will require both time and understanding to settle into their new environment. Parents also need time to adapt to leaving their child, and to gain confidence in the nursery's ability to provide appropriate care.

Our settling in policy aims to give both child and parent a flexible approach at this anxious time, to achieve the best results.

Following an initial visit of both parents/guardians and child of approximately one hour, the child is left for one hour, then two hours the next day, and so on until the child is happy to be left for a full day in the nursery environment with their key worker.

The duration of this settling in period depends entirely on your child, and will last until he/she is happily settled. On the first day of settling in the policy and procedures file is shown the parents/carer and discussed in detail each policy the nursery holds, all enrolment forms and contracts are also completed.

Regardless of whether your child is taking a full or part time place the settling in period lasts for one full week, below is a typical example of the settling in week :

Monday- 9.30-11.00
Tuesday- 9.30-12.30
Wednesday- 9.30-2.00
Thursday- 9.30-4.00
Friday-  Full day
