Our Curriculum

Children learn by exploring the world around them.  At Honeybear we offer each child the chance to play, learn and develop their experiences and all round development.  Learning through play is embraced throughout the nursery.  There are opportunities for children to play both in large and small groups as well as individually.  This helps to develop social skills and self confidence.

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

The early years foundation stage is for all staff working with children aged birth to five years. It came into effect on 1st September 2008 and its purpose is to give every child the best possible start in life that they deserve. It replaces the National standards, Birth to three matters and the curriculum guidance for the foundation stage.

The overarching aim of the EYFS is to help young children achieve the Every child matters outcomes of staying safe, being healthy, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution and achieving economic well being.

The EYFS principles which guide the way we work are grouped into four distinct but complementary themes

  • A unique child
  • Positive relationships
  • Enabling environments
  • Learning and development

Each principle applies to all children from birth and each principle is supported by four commitments that describe how the principle can be put into practice.

As a nursery we aim to deliver individualised learning, development and care to the children in our setting and every child is supported make progress at their own pace.

There are six areas covered by the Early Learning goals and educational programmes, these are:

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Creative development
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy
  • Physical development
  • Communication, language and Literacy

Throughout the child's time at nursery we continually assess and observe the children in their day to day activities and from this observational evidence we plan a range of learning activities which are in line with the Early learning goals.
